Gone but not forgotten: Tillie Tooter!
Lest you *had* forgotten before reading now of her passing (this past weekend, at the age of 98), she was the grandma who survived three days trapped in her car that went off the road ... getting by by eating miscellaneous items she found in her vehicle, finding water from squeezing socks she had put out in the rain, and doing other things that would make the most hard core survivalist proud of her skills whilst trapped in the driver's seat.
That was a car that went into a thicket of mangroves off of I-595 ... in the middle of August in southern Florida ... snake and alligator infested mangroves at that ... and she was rescued after seventy some hours when a teenager finally spotted her in the swampy mess (in her words, when she was all but dead).
Tillie Tooter, for whom I have an even much greater appreciation for her survival instincts now that I actually live here and better understand the environment in which she found herself for those few days back in 2000, you will be missed.
