Chikungunya Keysquitoes

Used in a sentence:  "I'll try to avoid sounding too apocalyptic ... but the Chikungunya Keysquitoes are (likely) coming."

That is, assuming the FDA grants permission to the company that "manufactures" the genetically modified critters to release them in the Florida Keys AND that the petition to stop that from happening doesn't have its desired effect.  According to Oxitec, said company, the science of it is to combat dengue fever and its tropical disease cousin known as chikungunya.  And, as an "added" benefit, the modified ones have had a fluorescent gene spliced in to make it easier to tell them apart.

I feel like this is probably how zombies start ... so, as practice for that eventual outcome, I fully intend to run -- and run fast -- from any glow-in-the-dark Chikungunya Keysquitoes that head my way.
