Random Soapbox for Saturday 1/4/14

I don't mean to go off on a rant here, but ...

... I'm about to start some laundry wars up in here.

We are nine apartments (of approximately 18 people, 12 dogs and 2 cats -- give or take) ... and we have to share two washers and two dryers.  I understand we're all rushing today to make sure that we have very possible piece of clothing at the ready for the next few days (with wind chills of negative 40-50, it is foreseeable that we'll each need to have eight layers available) and ESPECIALLY in case the pipes freeze (this isn't exactly a well-insulated corner of this ancient building)  ... but we have to have some kind of order, folks.

The washer cycle is 30 minutes.  The dryer cycle is 45 minutes.  At absolutely no time (except that 15 minute time frame between the different cycles) should there be clothing sitting in a washer when a dryer is empty.  Nowadays most everyone has a smart phone ... so smart that it has a timer on it ... so SET THE TIMER, and let's get this operation moving with better precision.  We're on a deadline here, people.  I hate nothing more that touching someone else's pile of unmentionables, but I'm warning you ... I will do so if I make the trip down the treacherous back stairs to be denied access to -- nay, to be *taunted by* the conditions in which I find things.

From what I've seen in my life, modern warfare requires putting your enemies on notice and announcing that you're going to fire the first salvo.  936 W Waveland Apts 1, 2 and 3 ... 3700 N Wilton Apts 1,2 and 3 ... and 3702 N Wilton Apts 1 and 3 ... consider this your warning.
