50 Things I'll Miss About Chicago -->
Thing 27:
Having the news be swallowed up by all kinds of CPS drama.
Just about everybody in Chicago is an armchair educator ... and the battle between labor and administration, with the constant influence of government (just follow the money trail ...), has always been a hot button topic in this city (even today, when the various sides are taking to the twitterverse to argue over whether vacation should be extended by a day in light of the arctic temps hitting our town on Monday and Tuesday). I'll miss gently mocking both sides (that, after scratching the surface, never seem to be truly focused on the students' best interests in their disputes).
NOTE: This may be the first CPS related post I've gotten through without making a reference to Medusa's hair. Well ... almost got through it.
COUNTER: I don't think anyone anywhere can match the vitriol that accompanies most CPS discussions ... and, if the interwebs are to be believed, there's a 2012 progress report that says "Florida is outperforming other southern states in a variety of indicators ... [and] is among the leaders when it comes to qualified teachers, college and career readiness, and school leadership standards." [Of course, that praise may be one of those tallest-of-the-little-people type situations ... ]
