Getting in the car and going away for the weekend.
Sure ... the last dozen years have been spent enjoying all that Chicago had to offer ... which included the fact that it was a great launching point for many a weekender spent in cities as varied as Detroit, Toledo, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Louisville, Milwaukee and (especially) Indianapolis. Nothing highlighted the ease with which such a trip could come together than when the trip around Lake Michigan this past fall came about. I sure will miss picking and choosing from amongst so many great destinations all within a 5 hour drive.
COUNTER: 5 hours from southern Florida? Key West, Tampa, Orlando, Gainesville, Tallahassee, etc, etc. Of course, they are all places to visit within the same state ... so my weekend getaways may be all Florida all the time in the years ahead!
