We're a city mouse/country mouse electorate.
Used in a sentence: "Don't know about you, but when you peel back the state map and see it all county by county, we're a city mouse/country mouse electorate".
Me -- I grew up basically a country mouse who moved to (and enjoys and thrives in) the city (although I like to think I can bring the best of both worlds to my mouse-hood in my current mouse 'hood, so to speak), but those little pockets of blue throughout the vast expanses of red really do speak to our nation's 50/50 divide in a very graphic way.
You know what other statistic I want to see represented all in pretty colors -- how many Facebook folks lost friends in the last fortnight?
Anyway, since I've got both red and blue friends (and a few red friends who are blue in a different way today), I'll just repeat what I said Monday ... whether you're excited or dissatisfied -- get (or stay) engaged. Join an organization. Create relationships with your political representatives at all levels. And for the sake of the future of our democracy, support campaign finance reform and the reversal of the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United.
And maybe no more election stuff for a hot minute?
