1.) Well that feels good. Admittedly, the opponent's been struggling, but getting the first win of the season still feels good.
2.) I guess I just assumed that Navy's mascot would have been nautically oriented -- but the goat does have a great story (see below).
3.) Ficken -- congratulations on a better performance this week. And for surviving the "heat" that was placed on you after last week's game -- some of it inappropriately vehement. A word of caution -- you'll want to keep on improving, as your last name lends itself pretty easily to a nickname with which you may not want to be coined. (I'm thinking "Fickle Ficken", here, folks -- let's keep it clean!)
4.) ABC -- thank you for starting this game on ESPN2 as the morning game ran over, but did you really have to stop coverage and direct us to turn back to ABC right as the first touchdown was being scored? Couldn't you have stretched it out and waited until a commercial or at least until the play was over before switching back?
5.) I fell asleep during most of the first half of the game -- and that's not commentary on how unexciting it was as much as it's a factor of scheduling it in the afternoon slot -- which is right in the middle of old-men-take-naps-on-weekends time.
6.) Since I did fall asleep, I'm not 100% certain -- but did we actually play a whole game today without any helmets popping off? If so -- good job!
7.) Anyone else think that Matt McG looks a little like a young George Bush?
8.) It was nice to see O'Brien uphold another one of JoePa's traditions by not running up the score too much and getting bench players in to play in the 4th quarter. Of course, what with the sanctions and all, there might not be that many players that fall into that category.
9.) Fittingly, today was military appreciation day. Check out the Penn State Football page for lots of great pics (like this one). We are ... honoring all those who serve or have served and we are ... Penn State.
In closing, thank you JoePa for your military service during WWII (contrary to what some believe, I think that moving on does not mean you wipe out all that the man did right over the course of his life) ... and the countdown to our next post-season game in 2016 stands at 57 more games!
