Random Memorial for Monday 10/17/11

Gone but not forgotten: Mickey's partner.

She passed away a few weeks ago now, and until she did, I didn't know what a force she was in making sure that I (and others of my generation) all can say "a hip hop the hippie the hippie to the hip hip hop a you don't stop the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie to the rhythm of the boogie". And now there is only silence when Mickey asks to hear "how she calls her loverboy".

Sylvia Robinson, half of Mickey and Sylvia (popular in their own right before Dirty Dancing) and the mother of hip-hop for her work with the Sugar Hill Gang, who passed in late September at the age of 75, you will be missed.
