What Chicago is talking about this week:
The city reeks of anticipation, a palpable electricity permeating the neighborhoods. [On second thought, a "palpable electricity" by definition probably means that "people are actually getting shocked". Anyway, you know what I mean ...] And, oddly enough, it is for so many different reasons ...
*those that are done with winter have seen the calendar turn to spring but know that they have to wait out at least one more storm forecast for next weekend;
*those that purchased a ticket to the sold out Charlie Sheen "winning-a-thons" recognize that he has to remain alive as a prerequisite for them to get to experience Charlie Sheen Live (d'uh ... winning!);
*those that have their bread buttered with Daley-flavored margarine have to wait out the Rahm transition;
*those that drink the "this is the year" kool-aid have a fortnight of goat goodwill to foster and have to process that the Cubs season opens on April Fools Day (not an omen at all!?);
*those that are fond of post-apocalyptic scenarios must process the map of nuclear reactors that demonstrates that northern Illinois is chock full of disasters-waiting-to-happen (and they are probably the same folks who have started digging the underground bunker after having read that some planes from Japan arrived at OHare with detectable amounts of radiation).
So maybe that palpable thing I'm trying to put my finger on is radioactivity ... hmmm ... must go get a Geiger counter or watch Silkwood again ...
OTHERS HAVE USED THAT PHRASE, ALTHOUGH THEY APPEAR TO BE MEDIUMS:
