What Chicago is talking about this week:
As we celebrate this Labor Day (well, as 9 out of 10 of us do, I guess, if I understand my percentages), the staff of the local Hyatt is practicing some good old Labor moves and walking off the job on a holiday weekend. During the negotiations it was announced that they've been working without a contract for quite some time, and have recently been threatened with the freezing of raises for five years and kicking of family members off insurance. More power to them -- but they did choose to picket super-early in the morning, walking around outside banging pots and pans (really, in 2010? there's not an app for that?) to make noise to wake up the customers. In these days and times, I would counsel them against that tactic as they would be lined up as target practice for anyone who really wanted to sleep in and got perturbed! Anyway -- happy holiday weekend!
