Random Memorial for Monday 9/6/10

Gone but not forgotten: prizes from summer carnivals of yore.

With white put away until another summer (who am I kidding, you can't drink Guinness and wear white anyway), I found myself today missing the ring and dime tosses at fairs of my youth. I can distinctly remember pitching those 10 cent pieces and tossing those rings all across Leb'non County in the late seventies, gaming on the fine line between skill and chance. I don't know how old I was exactly, but I can close my eyes right now and picture the Fredericksburg public pool as the place where these opportunities were in back to back booths down by the swings (while the old folks in my family were busy listening to local favorite Shorty Long).

Going home with a bevy of mismatched glassware and Atreat bottles of soda (pop for you Chicagoans), you are missed.

THERE ARE MANY SHORTY LONGS, BUT THIS WAS THE LOCAL LEGEND:

SHALL I BUY THEM MYSELF TO TOSS RINGS ON THEM?:
