I've only officially been a Floridian for two and a half years ... and my only run-in with bigfoot type creatures was when I watched Steve Austin (aka the $6,000,000 man) battle the bionic Bigfoot back in the day ... which is why it took me so long to find out that the swamps of the Everglades nearby had its own version of a sasquatchian creature.
Thanks to a cover story in the local New Times this week, I now know to be on the lookout for a giant hairy creature that walks on two legs and rules the swamp (even over the gators) that you can apparently smell miles away before you see him (or you don't see him ... as ... you know ... it's our version of the elusive bigfoot). Of course, that's only the next time I find myself alone in the swamps of Florida ... which, realistically, I'm guessing might not ever happen. But if it does ... I'll be ready!
