Gone but not forgotten: the established border between North and South Carolina.
Well ... soon to be gone. It looks like the states are closer than ever to agreeing on redrawing the lines between them and making adjustments that have been talked about for a long time.
The latest plans have 19 homes switching Carolinas on New Year's Day ... and another 54 homes and businesses cut through with the new line (those folks apparently get to choose to which Carolina they pledge allegiance).
Then there's the poor gas station/mini market. Currently, it's in SC ... but after the change, it will be in NC. And that means that the fireworks and alcohol it sells will become illegal ... and that the gas will get 30 cents more expensive overnight (although it sounds like the market is going to get a special deal by the government). Also -- that gas station is now going to have to hire security to police the bathrooms, 'cause that's how NC rolls.
For those Carolinians affected AND for their suddenly out of date identification as of 1.1.17, knowing where you come from with absolute certainty is a luxury that will be missed.
