This is the talent show at the 1996 HOBY seminar for central PA ... and the guy with the microphone was me, twenty years ago. (I'm pretty sure it was in the old Lynch gym at my alma mater, as LVC was hosting that year.)
As has been the overall scheme of things with my Flashback Fridays (not counting the series of photos I inherited from my father that started running this year and will continue until they are all on display), these posts on this day are a social media auto-biography of sorts told one update at a time and two decades after the fact.
Which makes this the last HOBY photo I'll be sharing (my time with the organization ended just before the next year's event), and so I decided to include the "hazing" tradition that happened in the talent show each year where newbies were pulled up to help portray a candy store, asking them to do various ridiculous hand motions or to make goofy sounds, leading up to the climax, where the instigator (me) delivered the punchline how they were "all a bunch of suckers" and then dropped the mic. I can only hope that someone picked up the mike and the mantle and passed on the tradition after I left,
It's a silly way to go out for sure when speaking about such a serious organization that played a key role in my development for ten years in various ways ... but then again, I've been known to be silly upon occasion.
