Random Soapbox for Saturday 1/24/15

I don't mean to go off on a rave here, but ...

[oh ... and yes, I'm continuing my reservation of the space for what would be one rant per month to hold a rave instead ... because that's good karma {or 20-25% good karma, purely mathematically speaking}]

... three cheers for Dolly and Walt, who went back home to cold cold Indiana today after spending 10 days down here in paradise.

Tell me ... who wouldn't want to spend ten days with the likes of them ... and what a ten days they were.  We ran out of time before we ran out of things to do ... and yet we somehow did so much:  attending chocolate festivals hosted by car museums in nearby north Miami ... touring tractor hall of fames all the way up north of Orlando ... shopping in multiple thrift stores all about town ... eating great homemade meals ... going out for fancy food all over the lower part of the state ... Michigan Rummy-ing a couple of times ... meeting multiple plumbers (which is actually the subject of a separate rant for an upcoming Saturday) ... spending two hours on I-95 going just the length of two exits (again, another rant for another day) ... dog-sitting the grandkids (aka the puppies) ... making the guest bedroom feel more fulfilled by having guests in it ... and spending the next to last day enjoying all that the nearby Flamingo Gardens had to offer (the location of this photo).

Of course, if Walt's in town, there's always a project or two.  (Thanks for the updated jalousie window hardware!  And for putting the dining room table and chairs through your makeshift wood shop out back!)  Speaking of Walt, I could share the riveting story about rivets he told me ... or, instead, this gem from when he saw a woman very far along in her pregnancy:  "Looks like she took it seriously when her husband was only trying to have a little fun."

Interestingly enough, when we all lived state-adjacent before the big move, we probably spent about the equivalent of this time together BUT it was all spread out during the year.  This intensive 10 day trip flew by ... and although there's something about returning to a stasis where the bathroom door needn't ever be closed and clothes barely need to be worn, it's also more than true that me and mine miss them already.

Thanks for everything, as always, Dolly and Walt!  See you in your home state around the Fourth of July!
