From the Kap-files #23:
[Quick reminder about this countdown ... in 23 calendar days, my position is being eliminated at my job, and so I'm looking back through my files, mental or otherwise, representing nearly 11 years with the company ...]
#23: As I prepared this list and winnowed down what would make the top 25, I surprised myself with how many FOOD references I associated with my time with the company.
And I don't just mean the candy jars I used to keep full at the front counter (never with dum-dums, usually with nerds or smarties [trying to stay on brand] and once with the cheap Mexican taffy candies that no one would take) ... but I'm talking about the pot-luck lunches out in Schaumburg (which had students of all ethnicity studying there ... rendering the meal one that was truly around-the world), and the go-to Thai delivery place for eat-in meals during meetings, and the round of Greek restaurants we always did for group lunches (where I first saw the famous Chicago flaming cheese ... o-pa!). I was so fond of eating whilst working that there was a time where I even got to expense monthly one-on-one meetings with each of my direct reports in nearby establishments for the purpose of "employee development" time!
But nothing encapsulates the priority placed on food as the years at Lincoln Park, where most days, before I said hello to my co-workers, I asked everyone what their lunch plans were. And, where many days, the answer was the local pita place OR salads from Philly's Best ... like the cheese-steak (add bacon) one pictured in this photo!
