From the Kap-files #17:
[If you've been following along, then you already know that in 17 calendar days, my position is being eliminated at my job, and so I'm looking back through my files, mental or otherwise, representing nearly 11 years with the company ...]
#17: Class starts!
In Jeopardy style: "What was one of my favorite things to do during the center years of my job?"
Now to the image. First, I don't want to give away any mid-naught trade secrets, so please know that there was more to the standard class start whiteboard set-up than just what I photo-shopped in. Second, I don't want to pretend that our whiteboards stayed white for too long (notwithstanding that special citrus-filled magical creme that could be applied to recondition the board if done properly). Third, I don't want to misrepresent the full selection of markers in the image as if that was the norm on the first day of class (veterans packed their own markers). Fourth, the image is clearly cropped so that you can't see the assorted handprints that would have been captured on the wall *next* to the whiteboard, left there from an excess of marker dust on the hands of those of us who wanted to appear young and hip and cool and lean against the wall while answering questions.
But if you put all of that aside, for those years where it was one of my main tasks, there was nothing better than greeting a cohort of students on the first day, introducing myself and my center, talking at length about the program on which they were about to embark (I managed to cut it back to 30 minutes ... but sometimes my class starts approached the hour mark back in the day), and then starting everyone on a standardized test (after we broke to sharpen our number two pencils, of course).
Quite simply ... I *loved* it!
