What southern Florida (and hopefully everyone else in the country -- or at least the civil-minded ones who haven't given up on a broken system) is talking about this week:
The fact that it's time to vote!
Truth be told, there's a good chance that many of you may have already voted, what with the trendiness of early voting by mail or at an approved polling site.
[Tangent to explain the image ... I lived in her hometown for almost a dozen years and didn't know she was my friend until I moved to Florida this year, but now I'm a pen pal of the First Lady it seems.]
Me, I didn't choose to vote early, just because I'm old school and like the special event feeling of the Tuesday tradition ... a tradition that apparently dates back to 1845 and the need to find a time to vote between the Sabbath on Sunday and traditional market day on Wednesday, while allowing for the need to travel a half day (as had to happen back then) to get to the county seat. Of course, hearing that makes me think that it might be time to update the traditions ... but until things change, Tuesdays it shall be.
If you haven't already done so ... research your employer's rules ... locate your polling place ... organize your Tuesday accordingly ... and VOTE!
