Random Scandal Sheet for Sunday 3/30/14

What southern Florida is talking about this week:

... the new kids on the block.

Not Danny, Joey, Jordan, Jonathan and Donnie-but-not-Marky (and yes, I had to wiki that list) ... but US ... the new folks on OUR block.

Courtesy of Casanova, everybody stops and says hello ... and so I reported about neighbors Matt and Matthew last week, but yesterday we all got to meet Breeanne (sp?) and Ian.  Breeanne entered the yard courtesy of her ten year old very very patient boxer mix named Nawla (sp?) with whom CJ (that might stick ... but it reminds me too much of The West Wing, so we'll see) had an impromptu play date.  She lives down the way and shared that she was a competitive swimmer who served in the Navy as a rescue diver ... and she now works for the city parks AND she told us about a doggie Easter Egg hunt coming up in a few weeks.

Ian's involvement in what ended up a mini block party was because he works for an HVAC company (known because he drives the company car) and he just happened to be pulling into his drive at the same time Walter and I were getting into the car to go get a replacement fuse for the unit here that had just blown.  A few hours later, he had provided a complimentary air conditioning diagnosis of sorts ... but then stuck around with story after story (since he was a punk rocker in the 70's and an inventor in modern times and tends to know a lot about a lot ... including the most important photo ever taken ... by the Hubble ... more information below).

The two best parts of the night ... Ian discussing how important the original 1930's language of AA was to him ... he read all twelve steps in their original poetry ... while we drank a six pack of Guinness AND Breeanne (sp?) informing us that the "baby palm tree" in the back yard was *actually* a papaya tree ... which pairs nicely with the coconuts and mangoes that are expected in the weeks ahead.

Funny how this neighbor thing works, eh?
