It's finally here -- the social event of the summer (... well, the summer of 1993). For the next five weeks (every Friday in August!), I'll be flashing back to this occasion twenty years ago.
It was momentous for a number of reasons (for instance, it was the last time that my biological mother was with all five of her children in the same room) ... but mostly because it was the marriage of my sister Sherry to her husband Joe.
Neither Sherry nor Joe are featured in this picture (wait two weeks for that -- closer to the actual anniversary) ... but this is clearly the reception and I was clearly twenty years younger. My dance partner -- my sister's exchange student friend from somewhere Scandinavian (I may or may not have that right) whose name was Fienchen (I *also* may or may not have *that* right).
And this was the first dance for the wedding party (after the bride and groom's solo dance, of course -- I mean, solo dance together -- you get the idea). Everywhere you see red, that's a bridesmaid ... and if you look really closely at the strip of white on the left hand side, that's just a glimpse of the newlyweds ...
I'll swap out for a different dance partner in a different picture next week! Until then, happy early 20th anniversary Sherry and Joe!
