Random Scandal Sheet for Sunday 11/11/12

What Chicago is talking about this week:

We interrupt the usual small talk about the weather (although it's been a beautiful global warming weekend -- which we used to just call Indian summer but that doesn't sound nearly as cataclysmic) and the sports (da Bears! da Bulls! da Blackhawks -- wait -- scratch that last one) to honor and respect our veterans.

Back in my day and my neck of the woods in PA, we honored them by naming stadiums after them (before that right went to corporate behemoths) ... but all that aside, a special thanks to all those who served and all those who are just veterans-in-waiting performing their active service -- like my father's father in the Great War, my biodad in WWII, my Indiana family's patriarch in Vietnam (note:  I don't think I've ever referred to Walter that way before ... sounds way too formal for him, no?), good friends and high school classmates in the years that followed and now the next generation (the Kruczek boys) actively serving.

We thank you for the sacrifice you've made or that you're making now.  Happy Veteran's Day!
