You know how all of a sudden you just find a song and it makes you stop what you're doing and listen? Well this clearly goes to my sappier side, but I heard this tune at the end of one of those reality television shows, and it was arresting. The video (at the link below) gets at the message even more by expanding it to so many more situations.
It's one of those "dig your heels in and get stubborn for all the right reasons and survive whatever is coming your way" kind of songs -- just with a bit more of a steelier undertone than, say, Don Henley's "I Will Not Go Quietly" (another song that gets airplay by me in the rough moments) and with more of a "we're all in this together" vibe. [And I love the lyrics in the big swelling bridge.]
And I'll use "dig your heels" as the jumping off point for this week's Amazing Race Aside (with three things I learned from this past episode):
1.) Thing ONE: So much for my talk of karma -- maybe it's not always present in the race as I had hoped. So hey producers, since you find a way to change rules each year -- (spoiler alert) -- BRING AMY BACK! She may have prosthetic heels to "dig in", but she was an inspiration as a double amputee and she is out of the race far too soon.
2.) Thing TWO: As per the Beekman Boys, gays are just naturally good at balloons (I did not know that).
3.) Thing THREE: Wajiya might just be the Smith of Indonesia.
I'M STILL LOOKING UP:
