100 Things I've Always Wanted To Say But Never Did And Now Maybe Should Since The World Might Be Ending -->
Thing 76:
File this under long overdue thanks ... but Mrs. Jones, my 6th grade teacher for math and some other subjects (in my elementary school -- Southeast, as it was known, sixth graders were cool kids who got to practice for middle school by switching rooms for certain topics) -- I just want to thank you for the individual attention you provided to me all those years ago. Upon reflection, I've acquired a new appreciation for all of my teachers, as I now realize how lucky I was that they felt free to break out of the mold and to let me work at my own pace on things that really interested me (is there any wonder I was so fond of the whole school experience that I extended my college and post-grad education into my thirties?). In particular, you let me work independently on advanced math concepts out of my own book back then -- feeding my insatiable need to feel different, but also allowing me to be truly challenged while I learned. And although I didn't turn into some math wizard building the next generation of space shuttles or anything, I did really take a shine to numbers in general (exhibit a: this countdown until the world ends, now just 76 days away). So thanks Mrs. Jones!
