Random Scandal Sheet for Sunday 4/29/12

What Chicago is talking about this week:

The fact that it is NOT monkey pox after all.

Child collector* Lise Sievers, originally of LaPorte IN, was on her way back from Africa where she had met two more to add to her collection (she reportedly has two biokids and ten other adoptees already) when she told family by cell phone that one of the kids had a sore that had burst on her while she was there (and that she had a red itchy rash that was rapidly spreading).

Then, in a scene like out of a movie (Outbreak, Contagion, etc.), the CDC got involved, the plane got quarantined at Midway, and an announcement was made over the loudspeaker of something to the effect of "will the real patient zero please stand up".  When the dust had settled, Lise got to make the rounds of the local news to report that it was a false monkey alarm and that it was just scabies from which she was suffering.

Just scabies?  Pardon me?  As excerpted from the link below:  "Scabies is an itchy, highly contagious skin disease caused by an infestation by the itch mite Sarcoptes scabiei. Mites are small eight-legged parasites (in contrast to insects, which have six legs). They are tiny, just 1/3 millimeter long, and burrow into the skin to produce intense itching, which tends to be worse at night."  Makes me want to reconsider all future flight plans and to always travel in threes so that no stranger can be all scabilicious beside me on a flight.

*Note:  This sounds snarkier than I intend it to.  I applaud those who adopt.  My tongue-in-cheek comment should not cast dispersion on this selfless act (so long as it doesn't get to an Octomom/hoarder/Duggar degree).
