Gone and soon to be forgotten: the loneliness of a bunch of what were homeless pets before this weekend.
To any and all who participated in the ASPCA nationally sponsored local adoption events that fell under the umbrella of the Mega Match-a-Thon that ran for 24 hours over the last weekend, congratulations on your new family members.
Without delving too much into the controversies surrounding said agencies (other than to suggest that you always research charities to which you donate to make sure that they use funds in the way you wish to support), I can say that I took the end of the month opportunity to follow through with my 2012 Facebook birthday plans -- which means I was able to make a $43 donation to the local PAWS (no-kill shelter) in Chicago in honor of the 43 FB connections of mine who made their birthdays public in the month of March.
Days of waiting for many to find their "forever homes", you will not be missed.
[By the way, this also means I now turn to April and its designated charity -- the Lustgarten Foundation (an organization focused on pancreatic cancer research) that I chose as a way to remember my surrogate grandmother JoAnne (who died after a long long long battle with the disease a few years ago). And since I offer to provide the whoe year's listing as part of the way I've set it up on Facebook, here are the plans for the rest of 2102 ...
MAY -- National MS Society
JUN -- Vital Bridges
JUL -- Save the Children
AUG -- Muscular Dystrophy Association
SEP -- Autism Speaks
OCT -- Susan G Komen for the Cure
NOV -- Greater Chicago Food Depository
DEC -- Trevor Project.]
