Purposeful Memorial for Monday 10/31/11

Gone but not forgotten: the other loved one I lost in the month of October.

She ended up playing the role of a surrogate grandmother in my life after I met her shortly before moving to Uniontown PA in 1992 for my theater internship, but even to say "playing the role" vastly diminishes how integral she was to my development over those formative years (I was a late bloomer, as you know). She passed in 2009, having survived so many years longer than predicted after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (always a fighter, rather stubborn -- all endearing qualities to me). I fondly recall trips to Green Dragon, Mt Gretna and Amish Country sites, home cooked meals at her apartments (chicken noodle soup, mystics in the frig and white grape juice every holiday), and plenty of time spent on weekly phone calls just checking in -- until the last one when she let me know that she was just ... so ... tired.

Joanne, you are (always) missed.
