In my mind, Alan Napier was the original (he shared my birthday -- albeit some 69 years before me). And Michael Caine is fine enough for the reboot. And there have been too many voiceover actors in too many cartoon versions to matter much to me. But it was Master Gough that will always be the image in my mind when I picture Bruce Wayne's butler, confidante, keeper of secrets, father figure, etc. etc.
The quintessential Alfred Thaddeus Crane Pennyworth, rest in peace -- you will be missed.
