I don't mean to go off on a rant here, but ...
... we now have the leading candidate for worst timing of the year award.
It's not the first big snowstorm to hit Chicago today (nothing beats buying a Christmas tree in the snow!) but the recent announcement that the Madison Square Garden will add catwalks suspended above the action in 2013-14. The fact that it hit the news the same week as the young man fell to his death at Soldier Field and the toddler died after climbing over the glass partition at the Staples Center seems a little tasteless.
Sure -- there will be safety precautions ... and barriers ... and alcohol ... and rabid fans. But, the venue sees dollar signs in crowding more people into space heretofore just only filled with air, so the renovation continues. Add more seats! Sell more tickets!! Pack them in!!! Nearly 20,000 seats is just not enough!!!! And if we lose one or two along the way, that's just collateral damage!
