Random Wordplay for Wednesday 10/20/10

Herbs (no silent 'h').

Used in a sentence: "I've been lamenting the lameness and overuse of the word 'fake' (thought I was going to say 'lame', didn't you?) as an insult for quite some time, crying out for creativity in this arena -- so I was pleased to learn that I can now refer to certain people as 'herbs'."

[By the way, on this day of purple in remembrance of those driven to suicide by bullies, let me be the first to say that those bullies jump to the front of the line to be insulted this way.]

Of course, if I now know that this is an insult that the kids are using nowadays, it's probably time to retire it. A little bit of internet research the modern way hints that this dig on others is in no way related to marijuana and may have even originated in the Burger King commercials of quite a few years back. It's apparently been embraced by the rap community -- and I first heard it on the Jersey Shore, so there's its pedigree for you to make your own judgement.

So ... in conclusion ... don't be one of the herbs -- stop bullying now!
