Random Tune for Tuesday 8/17/10

Could it be more American than the moment you realize that "you get what you pay for". If you want quality television in the 2000's, you're going to have to be an HBO/Showtime subscriber.

In honor of last night's return of Weeds (which has always been a master class in writing yourself out of corners and for disturbingly unique characters -- and can I already call this as the year croquet master Shane takes front and center stage), I can't include the link to their theme song (since they abandoned Little Boxes a few seasons ago) ... but I can follow the TV trail back through United States of Tara (master class in finding comedy in tragedy), Nurse Jackie (master class in acting courtesy of Edie Falco), Dexter (master class in treating guest stars like Jimmy and John), True Blood (master class in allegory), Generation Kill (master class in addressing headlines fictionally), Six Feet Under (master class in facing death to embrace life) -- all the way back to the original source of OZ (master class in male soap opera), whose theme song is at the link below (and, this is pay TV folks, so be forewarned prior to clicking through).

WARNING THEME SONG w QUICK SHOTS OF GRAPHIC IMAGES (prison, not wizard of...):
