Random Memorial for Monday 8/30/10

Gone but not forgotten: watching awards shows on TV and NOT recognizing most of the dead people.

Here's an unexpected sign of aging -- when I was younger, almost everyone in those sections of those shows was on the screen in black-and-white and I could recall very few of the names and faces. Then, seemingly overnight, I crossed some generational geriatric graveyard line-in-the-sand, and now it seems like those from my own personal connection to pop culture are dropping like flies -- a phenomenon with which I had to deal most recently while watching the Emmys. [Betty White, you best stay busy, as your fellow golden friends are leaving us like they're featured in some horrible sequel's sequel to Final Destination (Golden Miami -- in 3D!).]

In memoriam segments that I used to just use as a bathroom break as they had little meaning to me, you are missed.
