Random Wordplay for Wednesday 6/2/10

Tongan Togetherness.

Used in a sentence: We now have back-to-back years where The Biggest Loser has featured teams with relatives from Tonga on the show, and both instances made me wish that we all could have a little more Tongan Togetherness.

I don't know what it is about these mostly Polynesian folks, but, at least as they are edited on the show, family comes first -- and family seems to encompass the entire Tongan population. Both sets of cousins (cousins! who acted like brothers (of partners, but that takes the show a different way entirely)) seemed ready to sacrifice for each other, and both referenced a commitment to returning to their population to specifically improve the lives of the others in their "tribe". Mind you, toward the end, their confidence came off a little cocky, but the knowledge that a whole people has your back seemed very comforting and inspiring.

By the way -- bring on the Tongae next time (if the plural female of Tonga is like alumnae, that is), as 70% of Tongan women aged 15–85 are obese!
