I don't mean to go off on a rave here, but ...
[once a month ... I rave instead of rant ... 'cause a little variety is good for my health]
... and before I continue ... TUF spoiler alerts ahead ...
... three cheers and a huzzah to Andrew Sanchez for winning the most recent season of 'The Ultimate Fighter' (which I finally got around to watching after saving it to the DVR when it aired live). He won my admiration most in the semifinals with the teary way he reacted after beating his friend and teammate -- because I'm more a fan of those who are heartfelt and studious about the sport than the overblown swagger that seems to accompany the majority of those who step in the ring. (Of course, the season showed that finalist Khalil also was quick to tears, but at different moments for different reason.)
With a season of guys and girls both competing (not against each other) and living in the house together, it does seem a step forward in treating the sexes equally (despite the fact that I still feel uneasy watching the ladies wail on each other) ... although I guess the next step would be to have ring *boys* prancing around in speedos for the girls' matches with round numbers ... but that's probably a ways away yet. And then ultimately ... can a boy v girl fight ever be in the cards?
I will say I was disappointed in the outcome of the coaches' fight, but glad that Claudia got to speak her two cents after losing about how a belt is nice, but having humility and treating others well is what is really important. Joanna just seemed all season to be the poster child for those poor kids who never get picked up and held and loved as babies.
Seeing as how this is supposed to be a rave and not a rant ... enough about that and all credit again to Andrew, a new favorite for me in the sport along the lines of Joe Proctor a few seasons ago. Congratulations on the win and all that goes with it ... and please stay as classy as you've been to date. There's nothing more admirable than someone in a position of strength and power who can get the job done, but understand what the sport is really about -- and who remains calm and level-headed throughout, giving of himself to others in the process. Here's hoping for great things for you and your future!
