Gone but not forgotten: having to PAY to sing the "Happy Birthday" song.
Just in time for your Fourth of July celebrations today ... you can now freely sing Happy 240th Birthday to 'Merica, because the final settlement has been reached and the song is now in the public domain.
(Of course, upon hearing this news, you might need to fork up some cash for all the times you've sung it prior to this announcement without paying a royalty ... but that's between you and the government you are feting.)
Note that it is still unclear as to whether "you look like a monkey and smell like one too" is an approved additional verse ... but, going forward, at least those times when you risked financial ruin by singing it illegally prior to today will now be missed.
