Random Wordplay for Wednesday 6/16/10

Pinching in bad places.

Used in a sentence in yesterday's USA Today sports section of Chicago White Sox updates: "RHP Gavin Floyd was wincing in pain in the first inning of his Sunday start, bringing Guillen and trainer Herm Schneider out of the dugout; the problem was Floyd's protective cup was pinching in bad places and needed adjusting."

I couldn't help but be reminded of the way the media took to Nomar Garciaparra when he was a Cub and suffering from a groin injury in the summer of 2005. Around the office (in the Wrigley hood), we would check the paper for updates (referring to it as the Nomar Groin watch), based on how frequently the injury was covered and the plethora of updates about his privates that were provided that summer.

Mind you, I'm not making fun of these gentlemen in their painful predicaments, I'm just suggesting that there might be more exciting and less painful stories to report in the sports pages!
