Random Soapbox for Saturday 6/12/10

I don't mean to go off on a rant here, but ...

... why is this world filled with nay-sayers who claim your career is over when you get branded "difficult"? In my world, that's a badge of honor to wear proudly, stubbornly and obstinately!

A friend of mine (yeah ... a friend ... that's the ticket [to go all old school SNL ala Lovitz]) came to me for advice after he found out that others perceive him as "difficult" (just roll with it). Here's my .016492 euros worth (based on today's exchange rate): I still think that asking lots of questions and understanding the how, what and why things work is an admirable quality in a person. In a world full of automatons, blind followers and bandwagon jumpers, individuality is worth striving for -- it's the actualization at the end of the psychiatric lollipop! Let those who don't want to be challenged in their thoughts be surrounded by the yes-people, by the artificial schmoozers, by the "easy". There is nothing wrong with setting high standards or seeking out those who appreciate what you bring to the table. To be inspired by a little ee cummings:

'To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting."

Viva la bastante difĂcil!
