Random Memorial for Monday 6/21/10

Gone but not forgotten: ESPNZone.

Let's not pretend. I didn't grow up athletic by any stretch of the imagination. As it is now, I follow just enough about the local teams to make sure it never gets too awkward in any small talk situation. (The Hawks won, the Cubs and the White Sox are both struggling about the middle of their respective packs and the Bears don't play again for a few months. We kind of had a basketball team, but they don't do so much of late.)

But all the same, I've been to the ESPNZone once or twice in my life. As I recall, there were lots of plush recliners before banks and banks of TV screens airing every sport imaginable so that those so inclined could approach nirvana surrounded by endless beer, limitless wings and an infinity's worth of statistic-spouting blowhard talking heads.

For me, I'm most concerned about the old Baltimore Harbor. What's going to go in that highly visible space? Will the Hard Rock expand? Will the aquarium relocate its rain forest exhibit?

Even though I'm more of a SweetSassyMolassey kind of guy than a Boo-Yah one [to reference a classic Ray Romano SNL skit], chain 'o sports themed mega-complexes, you will be missed.
